What Makes You Happy?

>> Sunday, January 2, 2011

A day of learning is a day of earning. Yes, indeed this statement holds a profound sense that has a great significance in one's life. Learning when meets consequences become an experience that's, as you all know, the unmatched mentor which is beyond getting replaced by even the best tutor. Experience, be it bad or good, has markedly immense impact on its bearer. It preaches a lot.

A person feels pity feeds a destitute and someone, on the contrary finds happiness in snatching off the bread, sufficient to eliminate the deadly hunger, from a beggar's hand. This is intended to facilitate the understanding of selfishness of a human being that seeks nothing but his happiness. Well, who does a thing that leads him to be unhappy? Possibly such a doer is mentally ill or viciously addicted to pain and sorrow. Well, what I want to lay emphasis on is that we do what we find happiness and satisfaction in. This is a bare presentation of selfishness that is probably inherent in all living specie on this earth. A teacher impart knowledge as it makes him happy, a social worker revamps the society in a way he wants everything to be set up for betterment, a politician makes himself happy by gaining over power; sometimes forgetting the purpose behind the power, a robber robs, a rapist rapes to vent out his uncontrollable wrongly channelized sexual drive. All the performers can be seen as character of drama who wants to outwit other one by gaining over happiness. Probably, they forget that happiness dwell within that demands the capability to discover and defeat his/her own noisy mind. Some repent and some rejoice after having performed his deed.

I would like to mention an incident while I was in overcrowded bus. It was all packed. People were raising their heads to breathe, probably everybody had become two inch taller :). After a while a girl with her guardian boarded the bus. She looked scared; she was palpitating and was behaving as if she was going to be hunted soon. She was mentally retarded. She looked sweet. Yes, she was beautiful. A gentleman offered her his seat. I was delighted. I was just standing in front of her. A feeling prevailed my heart strongly, I just wanted to hug her and cure her anyhow. At the very next moment, I saw a woman handing over her luggage to that child. I swallowed hard as I was not able to take that luggage off her lap. I flew in rage but thought that everything what happens that happens for good. I just observed the love that was biased in the lady who handed over her heavy luggage to that retarded girl, who couldn't even sit well. That lady had her own child who enjoyed the biased love. If love is profound then how it becomes biased, is it a true love, or what it is then....?

Are we violent by nature?

>> Wednesday, March 31, 2010

The most dangerous and lethal killer on our planet is not the lion or tiger or the great shark but a weak and tiny creature known as man. History proves this, 1,50,000 people were killed and many more perished in order to conquer kalinga. 37 million people suffered death and injury during world war I and over 60 million were killed in second world war.

These genocides were carried out by humans, people like you and me. Man involves himself in mindless violence both on his own species as well as on other species. UN study has found out that nearly 20 million tons of fish are caught every year, 25% of this never reaches the market. It’s just dumped. This killing is faster than the breeding of fish which is ecocide.

This nature of humans is not prevalent in other species as they kill on need basis only. Every now and then we read about terrorist attacks, this is again an instance of mindless violence, terrorists are dedicated people who believe they are participants in a dynamic social or political process.

In most entertainment forms and in the actions of governments, there’s a streak of violence running through. One can see this even walking around the neighborhood, watching and listening to people, Violence – gross, subtle, physical, emotional and psychological – is everywhere. Victims and aggressors abound.

Before drawing any conclusion , I request all the members and readers of this blog to express their views.

Be Innovative

>> Saturday, March 6, 2010

To manage your time better means to live your life in such a way that you are able to accomplish more, so that at the end of each day you can realize measurable results and enjoy a sense of fulfillment. This always involves learning to do things differently so that the results are more efficient and effective than before. Learning to manage your life and your time isn't tough job. Anyone can do it! In fact, it is often the simple things you can do that will make great differences. Sometimes you even have to go backward in order to go forward.

I want to explain a small exercise that may make my intentions clear.

First, grab a pencil and paper. Think back to the time you started school. One of the first things you learned was how to identify shapes. Next you learned to draw them. On that sheet of paper I want you to do something very simple. Draw one triangle. Isn’t it a simple job? Yes it is! Now, draw as many triangles as you can in thirty seconds. Stop!! Count how many you were able to draw. Write down that number. Do you think there might be another way to complete this activity and draw more in less time?

Start at one side of the paper and draw connected W's all the way across the page. Now put a line across the top and the bottom. See how many you can draw in twenty seconds using this method. Doesn’t that create many triangles? In only a few seconds you have learned to do this activity more effectively in a much shorter amount of time. A seemingly insignificant change can make a significant difference in what can be accomplished in a given amount of time.

What if you could get four or five times as much done each day by making a simple change?

Would that work for you?

If so, always be on the lookout for "new" ways to do "old" things, and keep your mind open to using alternative methods and plans of action. Be innovative and flexible. I believe that there is no age of learning right things. It doesn’t matter how old are you, it all means your eagerness to learn new things and implementing them. After all innovations, creativity and a directed zeal lead to great changes.

What are you waiting for? Just start innovating and discovering before your competitors. I wish you all Best of hard work !

Happiness lies Within

>> Monday, March 1, 2010

Happiness needs not be brought about by any reason. It lies within us, only one is required to dig it out. Happiness once achieved does not only affects people surrounding the achiever but it also somehow subconsciously effects its bearer to great extent. Celebrations, festivals, parties and ceremonies are nothing but a pretext of having happiness for a short interval of time. Yes, I believe that a minute's mirth shades off grief of years. Happiness and grief are paradox but inductive in nature. It is a well known idea that one should pass his time with some happy people and not with the people who are swimming in the pool of despair, perhaps caused by their action or thinking. The only reason behind it is that both, happiness and grief are inductive and gets easily infused to the people in the company of their bearer. I believe it and do support it. However, if this fact is well accepted by every people then the time is not far that there will be a creation of two categories of people, sad and happy. If so happens then where this sad people will go and and whom these happy people make happy. I was just pondering over it... If all the happy people make a resolution and then make an earnest effort to make all the sad people to be like them then will not be the world marked by the idea of mutual cooperation, compassion and relationships.

I am from India as many of you all know, India is a country of diversity where different kind of people dwell having different cultures. Few countries in the world have such an ancient and diverse culture as India’s. For the majority of Indians, religion takes over every aspect of life, from commonplace daily chores to education and politics. In India there are many festivals which are celebrated. HOLI is one of the most enjoyable festivals celebrated in India. Holi is a festival of colors. It is a festival that ensures freedom to everyone who plays it. Woman especially in India enjoy a degree of freedom during the festival which is not otherwise available to them routinely.

Today I played Holi with my friends.

It was really a great fun. The importance of festivals is well understood by me now. To me it had been a greatest fun I had ever had. I am sure you can wonder why I talked about happiness above. I was just trying to exaggerate on the idea of being happy after having found a way to do so. It was really a moment when I enjoyed like anything. I ran, laughed, played pranks, titillated friends and even cracked jokes to make everything possible that may make the moment great.

So, I think is HOLI made for me to be happy, or in another way round is it necessary to fix a date when one can remain happy?.. I say, NO... can't we make every moment joyous. A great man said "you are the product of your thinking". Truly he is not wrong. There is a mental block in most of us that we can't be happy if there is no reason to be. Happiness should be incorporated in every action. If a person is not happy while donating fund to a charity then what's the use of it to him, If someone is not happy after stealing then it can never help him as this action of his was perhaps under compulsion. This was all I thought about shortly.

Before really stopping to write I would like to have the readers go through the quotes below by some great men.

  • Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be- Abraham Lincoln
  • You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life - Albert Camus
  • Happiness comes when your work and words are of benefit to yourself and others- Buddha

Look For Good Things

>> Sunday, February 7, 2010

There are plenty of people one can see everywhere. I have seen many people crying and laughing based on the matter they undergo. I find some messed up in the tears and some busy spreading the aroma of happiness in a most fabulous way. I say, take a look at the HAPPIEST people you know and you will find that they haven't had a easy life, in fact they had the toughest life one can imagine. People who are successful don't get it for free. They had to do perhaps they never wanted to.

Have you noticed one thing that if we look for good things in people or in places we find it, and when we look for bad things we do get that too. Does it not seem ridiculous. But it's not.. So it's not changing your situation that makes you happier. It's changing your THINKING!

If you start finding faults in the Job you do, in your mother, in your wife, or in your partner you would certainly get a plenty. Some people spend there life finding faults in everything they are engaged in. They are fault finders and they proudly say.. "I am being realistic". I laugh at these people. They are not realistic but they are the slave of the negative emotions that they tame in them. They are negative people.

Happy people continually ask themselves,

"What is good about this situation?"

To justify this I would like to site an example

Say, if you are stuck in a traffic jam. If you are a man with positive attitude then you would think of finding good of the situation. You will think of doing something good at the present situation. Consequently you may may have the following things to do..

1. You have time to listen to your favorite music
2. You can plan the later half of your day in the mean time.
3. You may recall good times you had with your girl friend etc..

and a negative person gets frustrated and starts abusing the situation, screams and subsequently falls flat with nothing constructive work done.

One should start his day with a commitment, jot down the tasks he is supposed to do when he wakes up and start the day in most happy way. Noting down the tasks to be done doesn't let you feel sorry for any job that may be left undone at the end of the day. An honest commitment lets you fight with your strongest enemy who is no one but yourself.

So be happy, change the way you think if you can't change the situation. Be flexible and be open to all possible changes as it is bound to take place.. change is most permanent entity.

I hope I am successful in conveying the message of being happy...

Reply to Entertainment.

>> Wednesday, January 27, 2010

I agree with the premise that entertainment can be used as a tool to impart knowledge, or propaganda. I wonder sometimes though if we humans have a tendency to read far too much into the twists and plots of a movie.

We watch a movie and then stop to think about the scenes and what they might mean. Like Anand did in his blog post. The post is a good one and makes the movie seem much more important than it was set up to be. While I mostly agree with the points brought up, I have some difficulty with a couple of them.

Never try to be successful is one I have difficulty with. You failed to define success. I am sure we could come up with several definitions of success. For example, would you classify success as having the largest house in town?, Or could it be the bank account with the most money?, Or, could it be as simple as having helped the most people in some way?. Or is it just having enough to live the kind of life you want? For me, success can be defined as accomplishing something that is important to me. Like the book I am writing detailing my family tree. When that project is complete, then I will be successful. It won't make me famous, it won't make me rich, it won't even affect more than a few hundred people, but it will be the largest project that I have completed.

Anand, you say strive for excellence and success will follow. I am striving for a very excellent book. My concern is that if I keep trying for perfection, the book may never be completed! In that case, I would not consider myself successful at all.

I like to live life to the fullest. Although I am fearful of new experiences and new things, I do not avoid them, but carry on searching for more knowledge. I love to learn. I consider myself to be a life long learner. That will only change when I leave this life. This week I am learning about enlightenment. I am adding exercise to my daily routine to improve my health. I am seeking new ideas all the time for improving my health. Some work, some don't. It is part of your life experience to learn what you can and apply the knowledge in a way that helps not only you, but others around you too. Selfishness is not an option.

I have limited faith in the leadership of industry. Money is what makes industry work. I prefer to barter when I can and share. I send my homemade jams out and receive a lot of love and advice back. I love to make the jams and jellies. I make way more than my family can eat, but I don't sell them. I trade them. I get vegetables, meals, other fruits to make more with, companionship, treats, rides to places I need to go, advice, love and appreciation.

I love life. I live to love. I live to be happy by doing what I love to do. Life is really wonderful.

Compassion: Way To Happiness

>> Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Before really delving into the thoughts dealing with today's agenda I would start off with the idea of being happy. Happiness is nothing but is a state of mind as worries are. Both dwell in us feeding on the thoughts we tame . Yes, thoughts are the key factor which make us the way they emerge in us. I believe that our brain is far more powerful than a TV transmitter which is capable of interacting with microwaves. By this connotation I mean to say that one's mental status is greatly judged by the way one thinks.

Death is one of the chief reasons that make people unhappy through a process of "fear". Many people live life in a fear of being killed or losing their lives. Well, according to elementary physics whole universe is made up of matter and energy which can't be destroyed or created. Transition from one state of matter to another take place. Life is a form of energy, if it is anything. Since energy or matter can't be destroyed then ofcourse life cannot be destroyed. Death is just a process which encompasses procedure of transition of life to another form- death. So, I think its not a thing to worry about. One cannot change the course of nature and it can be done then it indeed awaits calamity..

Of late I was enlightened on the term COMPASSION. What is it really? The answer is that it's nothing but A deep awareness of and sympathy for another's suffering. Does it brings about happiness to others, or it brings happiness to oneself? This is a question which may echo. Compassion is a way to the destination of the journey of life which employs itself in finding HAPPINESS. Yes, happiness is the effect of true and real compassion.

Compassion are of two types, biased compassion and unbiased compassion with former having its seeds sowed in us from the day we are born. Perhaps, the first preaching in our life is COMPASSION which we learn from the person who bear us in her womb. It's a natural compassion and is biased one, but it alone doesn't suffice the existence of real compassion. COMPASSION is not complete until its unbiased. Elephant is declared as one of the most compassionate living being on this earth.

Millions and trillions of money doesn't quench the thirst of a person on his death bed. The only thing what comes to his rescue is the contenment from the deeds he did when he was alive. Satisfaction also comes with its comrades ready to his rescue. Well, I think you must be thinking the about the sense which is being projected by being rescued. Its not regaining the life, its embracement of death in most gracious way..

In a concluding note I would like to emphasis on the act of being compassionate. It's a certain way to happiness and success which comes to deserving people. A idea struck my mind that one should not owe much from this world as it came before you did....

Be happy my friends as this is the way to intervene the divine power..
