Eye of a FATHER

>> Friday, April 16, 2010

Today I am going to narrate a story that may explain explicitly the importance of father or someone who cares and encourages you. This is a story of a teenager who loved his father like anything, There existed a very special relationship between them. They were perhaps pair sent from god to remain together. Their relationship was a like a drop which gets formed when two smaller water droplets coalesce to form a bigger one.

Little boy's father always encouraged him become a star in the game of football. While the son was somewhere on the benches the father was seen in the stands cheering. His father was really a genuine supporter of his son. Little boy had a great dream to see his father successful. He wanted to be a player of the era.

The young man was smallest among all his class mates in school, weak and less agile. He was always underestimated, bullied and misbehaved by his mates. He was always found near the fences observing the players playing the football. His eyes seemed stuck to the ball as if he was watching his prey so that he can pounce upon it.

After some days he was allowed by the team's coach to be in the practice session running errands. For him it was perhaps an opportunity to watch the game closely. He was found quite keen, moreover, his father's consistent encouragement didn't let his air of determination go down. His father was always there for him. This made the little boy, who knew that he may get a play when he will become senior, hang in the playground and practice whenever he got a chance. Really an act of perseverance.. !!

After the High Schools he stepped in college and decided to be as a "walk on" in the college team. He was still a dedicated member of his team. He was really magnificent in what he did. He could cut the ball, he could spin that out between the legs of opponent player. Due to lack of experience and insufficient involvement in any of the real game he was still not given a chance to show his potential, that would perhaps steal away fans heart and break them loose.

The coach admitted that he was in roaster but owing to the contribution of each member including the YOUNG man. He was so far the most dedicated, persistent and persevering member.

His father shared his excitement and was sent season tickets for all the college games. This persistent young athlete never missed practice during his four years at college, but he never got to play in the game.

It was the end of senior football match when he trotted in to the big play off game. The coach met him with a telegram. The telegram was for the boy. The boy started reading it and then the coach standing in front him got astonished to see him dead silent. He said, "what happened, boy?"... Swallowing hard, the boy mumbled, "my father passed away this morning". The coach could say nothing. He was all perplexed of his next action. He coddled the boy and asked him to take a week off leave. He asked him to relax and be composed. The boy walked away silently. Tears rolled down his eyes that were sufficient to wet the cuff of the coach's shirt. Well, all seemed dark for the poor boy.

After a week it was the final match when all the team members were giving their best to have a triumph. Unfortunately no tricks of the coach was working. All his effort were falling flat. The team was on the verge of being defeated. All of a sudden the whole team including the coach witnessed a guy all dressed up to play, and holding his chin high running towards the ground. It was no one but the YOUNG BOY. The coach tried to stop him a to play as he was not well mentally. The Boy insisted and the coach had to give in.

Most amazingly the boy was all absorbed and had started coordinating with the team like a leader. yes, he was a real captain. He could cut the ball, dribbled and run like a wind. He passed on the ball skillfully and made some great sots. The team was triumphing now. Soon it managed to make a tie. Before the full time whistle the YOUNG BOY intercepted a pass and all the way he made it to a final touchdown. In no time the fans broke loose, entered the ground and hoisted the boy on their shoulder. The team had won the match.

After the match was over and all ceremonies done the coach met the boy and keeping his arms around his shoulder he said, " I am proud of you". The boy's eyes were full of tears, he swallowed hard, forced a smile and said to the coach, "did you know my father was BLIND?". He said him that all his DAD used to come all the way for him, but could never see him play. He said " I wanted him to see me playing today from THERE "

Prepare to get your points across!

>> Saturday, April 10, 2010

Have you ever asked yourself: how do I make my point clear?

You write an article, prepare a speech or meeting and jot down your points. What is important? You know your topic and goals so that is the easy part. Now you have a long list or a very short one. You have a limit of time or characters to make your point clear.

Now the real work starts: How do you get your points across in a friendly and clear manner?

Here your preparation plays a huge role. Part of it is the research results and your knowledge. The internet or library helps with the research.

You still have to do some thinking at your part: Which is the best way to combine the important points in your speech, video or article. Which words you use and how you combine them nail down your content or make things worse.

What can help you to decide the best way to compose your message? More knowledge: Who are the persons your readers, listeners and viewers? How can you show them that you understand their needs?

When they know you well they understand what you say confusing or clear. The risk is yours. You stick into a foggy place when you depend on your audience knowing you inside out.

Have you ever listened to speeches or red articles or books carefully? Each speech or article tells you a lot about the intention of the speaker or writer. It tells you about the personality of the author or speaker. What does the speaker or writer tells about the own intention by the words and structure of sentences which are used? What do you find out about the personality of the author or speaker?

Are the sentences long and winding? Are the sentences short and clear? What does the length of the sentences say about the user? What does your preference say about you?

There are some memorable sentences in history. The most memorable and quoted once are short and clear. You easily can come up with several of them. Why? Because you better remember what you understand clearly. Short sentences are easier to remember.

When you have something important to tell or share use short sentences. Short sentences will stick longer with the reader or listener. Short sentences are more intense.

Sometimes it is a fun to figure out the meaning of a long sentence. At least it is a confirmation that you are smart enough to do it.

Be honest when you are listening to a speech or want to know something you prefer it short and clear. You respect the work someone did to turn great knowledge or wisdom in an easily understood form. You have to think through all that important and meaningful thoughts while listening or reading. You have to connect it to your knowledge and experiences. The author or speaker is ahead of you as s/he had done this work.

The pace of speaking and the things the speaker expect from you should be according to your understanding of the topic.

When you deliver a speech you want to be recognised as smart person. How can you achieve that goal? Easily by doing your homework! Thinking things through and finding the right terms and means to deliver the content is your most crucial part.

Have a look at your article or script again after a while. You might want to improve it further before you make it public.

Checklist:

  • Are all important points well covered? Check with your list of bullet points.
  • Is the language clear? Do you know that your audience know the words you use? Do you have to explain words? Are the sentences clear or do they have a double meaning?
  • Do I know the answers of upcoming questions? That is an important part. People that are interested in a topic want to know more. Think and prepare more than you think is important to know. Learn about the details.
  • Is my attitude friendly? Have a look at the words are they usually viewed as harsh or offending?
  • Are there enough breaks in it? Do you pause at the right points when speaking before a new thought or topic is addressed? Do you have enough paragraphs in your article? Organise the structure in an easy to understand way.

Practise every day using those points frequently. After a while you find it easy and can hone your skills further.

Now enjoy to prepare your next article, video, speech.

LOVE or INFATUATION

>> Saturday, April 3, 2010

You meet HIM/HER. You know what I mean, THE ONE.You have been waiting for the person who made your heart pound, made the stars bright, and taken over all reasonable thought processes with ideas of making love on every beach from here to Tahiti. You have a weird expression on your face, food suddenly seems like a mere inconvenience and sleep is just something you used to do. Your friends tease you about being in love. Your mother WARNS you about being in love.

Love is a dynamic process, which means that there is a relationship that flexes, changes and grows as people mature, experience happens upon them, priorities and dreams are built and goals are met. Love brings out the best in people as individuals. The relationship between them becomes the way they define their lives. As jobs, careers, and family concerns change, people are able to work as a team to be understanding and flexible so the relationship (their lives) will flourish.

What if it is infatuation? That's when you think of someone all the time, you go out of your way to be around him/her, and you begin to center your priorities around him/her as well. You daydream about him/her. There is a feeling of insecurity. You are excited and eager, but not genuinely happy. There are nagging doubts, unanswered questions, little bits and pieces about your beloved that you would just as soon not examine too closely. It might spoil the dream. It has an element of sexual excitement. Whenever you are together, you hope it will end in intimacy.

have you ever seen a girl who was so beautiful that you thought you'd faint?
This is infatuation! It is based totally on physical attraction. Most people are infatuated with their love partners to a certain degree.

What is the difference between love and infatuation? The first difference is that infatuation is short lived. It disappears soon. While infatuation limits your feelings to attraction, love will make you grow in every way and it brings a feeling of comfort when you think of the other person and that feeling will make you stronger as it increases your confidence in yourself to be the person that you want to be.

Maybe infatuation is brain based, and love is heart based?

True love is considered to last a lifetime while infatuation is considered to last only for a few weeks or at the most few months. This difference may actually not be true because a person marries another because of the love shared between them, but after a few years of marriage, they break up because they find that they do not love each other. This does not make their relationship into an infatuation. This is because there was love shared between them, but it is just that the love has soured.

This was today's shocking news to many people who forgot what day it is.

April Fools Day has long been a day of pranksters and jokes, the most common origin of the odd tradition is attributed to 16th-century France. During that period, King Charles IX tore up the traditional calendar and moved New Year's from the end of March to January 1 in 1582, leading to the mocking of those who still celebrate the new year in spring as fools.

the top five April Fools Day pranks ever:

In 1962, Sweden had only one television channel. It was broadcast in black and white. Kjell Stensson, the stations technical expert made an appearance on the news to announce that there was a new technology that would allow viewers to convert their existing sets to display in color. All they had to do was place a nylon stocking over their television set. Stensson, with a straight face, proceeded to demonstrate the correct placement of the stocking on a television set. Thousands of people did just that, and you know what? Sweden didn't broadcast in color until April 1st of 1970.

In 1975, a very respected news show called Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter, the dreaded Spaghetti Weevil was almost obliterated. They also reported that Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. The story even showed footage of Swiss peasants pulling strands of spaghetti from trees. Hundreds and hundreds of viewers called the BBC and asked how they could grow their own spaghetti tree. The reply they got was, "Place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best."

In 1977, The Guardian', a British paper, published a seven-page story about San Serriffe. This small republic was said to be made up of several semi-colon-shaped islands in the Indian Ocean. A series of articles explained the Upper Caisee, Lower Caisee, its capital, Bodoni, and its leader General Pica. Phones rang off the hook as people tried to get more information on this beautiful place. Only a few people noticed that the explanation of the islands used printer's terminology. Get it, Upper Case, Lower Case? This hoax is credited with getting the British in the April Fools' mood for years to come.

In 1985, Mets fans were excited to learn about Sidd Finch, a new ball player who could pitch a baseball at 168 miles per hour with pinpoint accuracy. The record at that time was 65 miles per hour slower than Finch. Sports Illustrated broke the story, saying that Finch had never even played a game of baseball before, but that he'd mastered the "art of the pitch" in a Tibetan monastery, taught by the "great poet-saint Lama Malaraspa". Mets fans flooded Sports Illustrated with calls only to find out that the legendary player was a fictional character made up by author George Plimpton.

In 1996, the Taco Bell Corporation made an announcement that they had purchased the Liberty Bell and would be renaming it the Taco Liberty Bell. Hundreds and hundreds of U.S. citizens were outraged and called the National Historic Park in Philadelphia, where the bell was being housed, and gave them a piece of their mind. A few hours later, Taco Bell set things straight, but the topper was when the White House press secretary, Mike McCurry was asked about the sale, and he responded that the Lincoln Memorial had also been sold, and it would be known as the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial.
